As I type, Sheffield are facing off against the Dundee Stars at Ice Sheffield. A game which could prove enough to push the Nottingham Panthers out and make the Elite League title a two-horse race.
Starting in net is Marek Pinc for Sheffield and it’s a pretty safe bet that it’ll be the same tomorrow in Coventry too, with Brad Day as back-up. With Brian Stewart in for the Coventry Blaze.
It’s pretty well documented that the Steelers have not done well this season against the Blaze, a team who seem to have their number. Stewart seems to just know what the Steelers have up their sleeves and have denied them a win on every trip to the Skydome this season. In their six meets this season Coventry have claimed the points in all but one.
Speaking to Guillaume Desbiens after their last meeting at the Skydome, he explains why he feels this happens.
He’s a very good goalie. I think he is… He’s played unbelievably against us. I think in our heads we’re seeing him as better than he really is.
I think our confidence against him was a little low but today we were able to exploit him a little bit and you know, score four goals against him. It’s pretty good… So I think, we kinda know what to do to make him move and be able to score those goals, so if we can just do that next time.
Currently the score is 3-0 Sheffield at Ice Sheffield this evening and a win for them will put the Panthers out of the title race. A loss for Cardiff, in their last game before before moving to their new arena, would bring the top two teams in alignment on points making the race for the Elite League title anyone’s. The last month of the season is shaping up to be a nail biter.
This, my friends, is what the edge of your seat was made for!
