The Return of Zack Fitzgerald

Last night the twitter verse went into overdrive as former Sheffield Steeler Zack Fitzgerald was signed by Pete Russell to captain the 18/19 Braehead Clan.

Fans were in shock when the Steelers revealed they wouldn’t be welcoming back nine of their imports, including fan favourites Colton Fretter, Ervins Mustukovs, Joonas Rönnberg and enforcer Zack Fitzgerald.

Speaking to Zack after the announcement, it was difficult to ascertain what might be on the cards for the Minnesota native and his growing family.

“We were always going to weigh our options.” He told me over twitter. “I have been speaking to other teams, it was just a matter of Sheffield not having a contract to offer, after mine expired this season, wasn’t released from any commitments.”

Fitzgerald previously played with the Scottish side in the 2014-15 season before becoming a fan favourite in Sheffield and now he’s back, much to the delight of the purple army.

In the summer Fitzgerald and his wife Crystal will be welcoming a baby girl, who many fans will be glad to see around. The outpouring of love and gifts for the tot has been documented on Instagram by the couple, to see them grow as a family in the UK will be special as many fans consider them one of our own.

Chasing the Puck wishes to extend our congratulations to Zack on his captaincy and well wishes to both him and Crystal for the safe arrival of little Miss Fitzy in the summer.
