It’s finally here! Capitals v Golden Knights

While the Golden Knights have been waiting for this day for less than a year, fans of the Washington Capitals haven’t been in this position for 20 years.

Tonight, they line up in the Stanley Cup final as the underdog against a team who seem hungry to prove a point in their inaugural season.

The Golden Knights have made it to the final in 4 less games than it took the Capitals, having swept their opponents in rounds 1 and 2. In fact some might argue, they have almost made it look easy.

With former penguin and two time Stanley Cup champion Marc-Andre Fleury between the pipes, most bookmakers have got them winning Lord Stanley. Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby has other ideas and has been a different animal this postseason, most recently tallying his first 2 shutouts of the current campaign.

Former Capital and current Knight, Nate Schmidt spoke to the media yesterday ahead of tonight’s clash. He was quoted as saying that he expected a big hit from Tom Wilson, so planned to keep his head up as much as possible.

They appear to really be pushing the narrative of Schmidt being out for retribution against the team who ‘let him go’ which seems like an odd thing to do as I don’t think any of the teams who lost players to the new franchise honestly wanted to let them go.

Tonight, the Capitals will be going with their game 7 lineup from the last round.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin spoke to the media yesterday, this is the first time in his career that the team have made it this far.
