Having signed in the KHL earlier in the season and having that contract subsequently revoked, ex Sheffield Steeler Ben O’Connor has signed for Swedish side Leksands Idrottsförening.
Many Sheffield fans had speculated that O’Connor might return to the House of Steel this coming August, however this news confirms that this isn’t to be.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post earlier this month O’Connor had his own view on things.
I’m not taking anything for granted with the Steelers – I’ve loved my time there immensely but, at the same time, it is silly not to try and play at a higher level.
“It’s a big gamble to leave somewhere where you feel safe but, at the same time, you have got to do what is best for you and your family.
“There are a few things out there and I’d be crazy not to take a look and see what is available. A lot of teams are filling up quickly all over Europe, so I’m going to take a week or so and just see what is out there.”
This move to Sweden sees O’Connor join the second league team in Sweden. Taking to his Twitter account O’Connor appears excited for the next chapter in his adventure.
