It’s been a few weeks since my last update on the Colorado Avalanche so here is the latest news.
A little while ago I wrote an article about whether the Vegas Golden Knights needed to pursue John Tavares this summer, and now that situation is over after he signed a huge deal to go home to Toronto, is there a different big name Vegas need to go after?
Obviously Erik Karlsson is less than happy in Ottawa, I’m sure it’s a lovely city, I’ve never been but I’m sure it’s a nice city, just a toxic environment within the Senators organisation.
Now more than ever it looks like the Senators captain will be on his way out of the Canadian capital after reports the team are allowing interested teams to open contract talks with the 28-year-old.
It wasn’t until 2011, when we moved to a suburb outside of St. Louis, that I took my oldest son to his first hockey game. Thing #1 was 10, we tried everything at this point to find his interest, baseball, soccer, fencing, swim team. It wasn’t until that fateful evening in December 2011, when he saw the St. Louis Blues play the Chicago Blackhawks that he looked at me with the look of wonder and said, “What IS this? And why am I just seeing this now?”
To become a successful General Manager of a hockey club, you need to have out of this world skills in negotiations. Whether that be dealing with your team’s superstar wanting a new contract or shopping around for that deal that could elevate your star to a whole new level. In the NHL this is something the GM position is so crucial that everything could easily collapse if you make the wrong choice.
This morning the Sheffield Steelers announced their latest acquisition to their 2018-19 roster as the import slots start to fill. Joining the completely revamped Steelers team for the season ahead, is left winger Justin Buzzeo.
The 28 year old Canadian arrives in Sheffield after splitting his maiden year in Europe with Graz 99ers of the EBEL and latterly, DEL2 side Ravensburg Towerstars. He is another young and hungry player that should prove to be a good signing by Paul Thompson if he can reproduce the form which he has had so far in both his junior and senior hockey career.
Looking at his statistics, Buzzeo has a good record of goals and assists throughout. He’s averaging a point at least every two games which is not to be sniffed at. With a point production like that, Steelers seem to have stumbled on a gem if he replicates it. Buzzeo has also done his homework on the club, like most players do, and Eric Neiley (who impressed so much in his short spell last season) gave the new signing the green light that he should consider Sheffield as his next stop on his hockey career.
A pacy winger, Buzzeo should excite the Steelers fans with his high energy work rate and we look forward to seeing him in action. Welcome to Sheffield Justin.
