It’s been a few weeks since my last update on the Colorado Avalanche so here is the latest news.
Let’s get right in to the player update.
Firstly Colorado have acquired the services of goalie Philipp Grubauer from the Stanley cup champion Washington Capitals. He has been signed on a 3 year deal keeping him with the club until the end of the 2020-21 season. His stats were 2.35 GAA and save percentage of .923 through the 2017-18 season. He should be able to come in and play a good chunk of games this year and may be even threaten Varlamov for the number one slot.
Next up the Avalanche have brought in 6′ 1″ 220lb defencemen Ian Cole. He has a wealth of experience having played for the past 7 seasons in the NHL with the likes of the St Louis Blues and the former Stanley Cup champions the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Last season he played 47 games for the Penguins before being traded to Columbus where he played a further 20 games. He has also been brought in for 3 years.
The Avalanche has also brought in on a 3 year deal winger Matt Calvert. The 28 year old has played in Columbus for the past five seasons he looks to be a perfect fit for this young fast Avalanche team as he is hard working and has speed, he also has a good shot on him ideal for the power play.
Three guys have been singed on 1 year deals but they will play with the AHL Eagles. They are goalie Joe Cannata, forward Scott Kosmachuk and forward Sheldon Dries.
Last week, a new affiliation was also announced which keeps Colorado hockey firmly in the rocky mountain area with the addition of the Utah Grizzlies coming on board as the new ECHL affiliate.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on the last week or so?
