The Fife Flyers welcomed in the day with a double signing. Bringing back Danick Gauthier and netminder Shane Owen.
A signing move characteristic of Sheffield Steelers (infact Fife’s first signing dropped onto our twitter timeliness at 5:50am) the Fife Flyers welcomed back Gauthier and Owen.
Owen seems happy to be returning to Kirkcaldy after spending much of the last season bouncing from team to team, playing in Sweden, North America and Poland.
Fife Flyers Assistant Coach Jeff Hutchins said “Shane was a league all-star the last time he played in the EIHL. We are delighted that we managed to bring him back to Kirkcaldy.”
“He held us in a lot of games and gave us a chance to win where we probably shouldn’t have on some nights. He’s professional and comes ready to work every day.”
“We have been fortunate in Fife to have quality goalies over the years, having Shane back in the blue, white & gold this coming year assures that trend continues.”
During the 16/17 season Owen picked up both the fans’ and plahers’ player of the year award, at this time the reason for his multiple moves last season are unclear.
The second signing is a more recent returnee. Danick Gauthier played for Fife only last year and has signed up again for this coming season.
Head Coach Todd Dutiaume had the following to say on re-signing the popular forward: “Danick was a big presence in our line-up last season and a target of ours to have back. After a number of lengthy discussions, I’m delighted to have the Goat back in our line-up.”
“Speaking to Danick he now feels that he knows the league better and is familiar with our family, so he has even more to offer offensively and physically.”
“Once again he will be relied on heavily in most situations and I look to him to lead by example night in and night out.”
Gauthier added “I really enjoyed my time in Fife last season and I am looking forward to heading back to Fife this season and competing for silverware.”
