The Mercedes Benz Fife Flyers have made another signing announcement this morning and it’s the first defencemen on the roster this year.
Welcome to Fife, former Breahead Clan and Sheffield Steelers D man Scott Aarssen.
Scott is a 30 year old Ontario Native, he began his playing career with a season in the Midget Junior league with the London jr Knights, he then went on to play for the St. Thomas Stars in the WOHL.
He then returned to his hometown and played for the London Knights for five season in the OHL, two of which he wore an ‘A’ and his final season with them he was the captain.
Scott then played three years in the Usports league with the University of Western Ontario. Again, for two of those years he wore an ‘A’ before moving on to the EBEL, playing with Dornbirner EC.
After the EBEL, Scott joined the Fife Flyers new fierce rivals of the Braehead (Glasgow) Clan. He played in Glasgow for four seasons and wore an ‘A’ every season and last year he made the switch to the Sheffield Steelers.
I am thinking the Flyers have brought in a very good D man with leadership quality and hopefully a leader on and off the ice along with a fabulous assist record since joining the Elite League.
Scott has had 29,31,23,30,21, assists every season so far hopefully that also continue with the Flyers, along with having 32,32,28,34,23 total points every season in the league, this should make Scott an asset at both ends of the ice.
Scott had this to say about his move to Fife “My family and I are extremely happy to be heading to Kirkcaldy to play for the Flyers this upcoming season. After doing some research, everyone I spoke to had nothing but great things to say about the organization and the town, Having been in the league for a while now, I know all about the fans & the incredible atmosphere in Fife. I look forward to playing in front of them and receiving cheers instead of jeers I couldn’t be more excited to get over there and meet my new teammates and coaches. I think Todd & Jeff have done a great job so far in assembling a team that will work hard and be successful. My goal is for our team to win every trophy and do whatever it takes to help the team win. I can’t wait to hit the ice and get started.”
Head Coach Todd Dutiaume said “We were really pleased to secure Scott’s services for the season ahead. We have always admired his style of play and after speaking to him in the summer, we were keen to add him to the roster, He is an experienced player, who knows the league well, and he will be an asset both on and off the ice, Scott will fit in well with the team we are building and it’s great to have him on board.”
