This Morning’s 6 am announcement is that former Edinburgh capitals forward Mike Cazzola has joined the Fife Flyers for the 2018-19 season.
Mike is a 27 year old Ontario Canada native. In 2006-07 he played for the Guelph Jr storm minor midget AAA. He played 31 games and totalled 45 points, so it was evident from an early age mike was going to become a very good player indeed.
The following year he played 40 games again for Guelph, he also made three appearances in the OHL for the Erie Otters, following that successful season of another one point per game in 2008-09
Mike then moved to Erie full time. He played three full seasons for the Otters and his final year in the OHL he played twelve games for the Erie and 28 Ottawa 67’s.
During his time in Erie and Ottawa he played with some fantastic players including current NHL netminder Petr Mrazek and former Avalanche player and Ryan O’Reilly. While playing for Erie, he was also teammates with current Fife Flyers goalie, Shane Owen.
He also played alongside Herlev Eagles player Brett Thompson of course fife saw him last season or the season before as we played Herlev in a friendly.
From the 2012-13 season until the end of the 2016 season Mike played for Acadia University in the Usports league, after leaving there he joined the ECHL Fort Wayne Comets for one season which also saw him play three games as he was loaned to the AHL Binghamton Senators before least year playing in Edinburgh for the Capitals and he managed to come out of the season with a point a game which is very impressive indeed considering the Caps finished dead last and didn’t register a lot of wins.
Mike has this to say on joining the Flyers “After a difficult season with the Edinburgh Capitals last year, I couldn’t be more excited to have a fresh start in Fife, Although Edinburgh was an amazing city and the fans were great, I’m looking forward to joining a new team and organization. I have heard nothing but good things about the organization, the management and the players that they have brought in. It will be great to see Shane Owen again who I played with back in the OHL years, and I’m looking forward to playing for a team who will compete in every game, I know from experience what a good fan base Fife has and I’m excited to see what this year has in store. I hope that I can help take the team to the next level and we can continue with the momentum of last season’s success, Right now, I’m just focused on getting in shape and looking forward to meeting the team and having a fresh start with a winning mentality.”
Head coach Todd Dutiaume had this to say on Cazzola “Mike will complement our returning forwards well. He’s always dangerous with the puck on his stick and we believe he will become a fan favourite here in Fife, e followed him closely last season and feel he has even more to offer in a Flyers jersey, He’ll play a critical role in this squad on and off the ice and I’m sure our supporters will join me in welcoming Caz to Kirkcaldy.”
