Brits ready to fly

The Fife Flyers have gone into overdrive in regarding signings as the summer draws to a close and our first pre-season game in on Thursday. They announced a quartet of British talent.

Firstly coming back for his second season with the Flyers will be nineteen year old Scottish forward Chad Smith. Chad has come up through the Fife junior development system and along with icing in games for the Flyers and the Kestrels last season – which saw him part of the conference winning team, Chad also played for the Great Britain under 20’s and during the summer he went to Australia to play for the Sydney Bears.

The second Brit addition up front will be thirty two year old Scottish journey man Bari McKenzie. Bari has played at most levels in Britain.

In 2003-04 he played 1 game for Basingstoke Bison in the EIHL, then 27 games in the EPIHL for the Milton Keynes Lightning and a few games for Milton Keynes Thunder and he also played for the GB under 18’s. The next few season saw him again compete in the EPL for the Lightning with a few EIHL games for Coventry and the Bison along with competing for GB at under 20 level a second time.

In the 2006-07 season he had signed with a team in Canada but ended up playing for the Solway Sharks in the SNL.

Following that he played for the Belfast Giants and the Chelmsford Chieftains. From the 2008-09 season Bari has played for Edinburgh Capitals and Dundee Stars and the Glasgow Clan so this is his final Scottish team in the EIHL to play for. He also played again for the Solway Sharks, Cardiff Devils and the Manchester Phoenix.

British Ice Hockey

Next player announced was Bari McKenzie’s former team mate in Glasgow, Jordan Buesa.

Jordan began playing for North Ayrshire Predators under 16’s and then he moved the North Ayrshire Devils under 20’s team.

In the 2015-16 season Jordan had a fantastic opportunity as he played in Canada for the Toronto Titans Minor Midget AAA. The following year he played 20 games for the Clan alongside 18 games for the Solway Sharks and he played for GB under 18’s and 20’s.

Last season he dressed 31 times for the Clan and played 8 games for Solway and played for GB under 18 A and GB under 20.

Herald Scotland

The Final Brit announced has been Calum Robertson the son of former Flyer Iain Robertson.

Calum is young 17 year old and has like Chad Smith come up through the Fife youth System for most of his playing career so far. He began in 2014-15 playing under 16 for the Fife Flames for two seasons and then he played under 20 for the Fife Flacons and a few games in the SNL for the Kirkcaldy Kestrels. Calum has also played for GB under 18.

Last season he played in the EIHL for the Edinburgh Capitals and also for Murrayfield under 20’s he also again played for the under 18 GB team.
