The Newfoundland Growlers have signed British Colombia native Michael Garteig to a one-year ECHL contract. With that, Garteig becomes the first goaltender on the Growlers roster.
The 26 year old dressed for 24 games with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings last season, posting a .887 save percentage and a 3.81 goals against average.
In 2016-17 he featured in 8 AHL games with the Utica Comets, recording an .897 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average; and he played 22 times for the Alaska Aces earning a .906 save percentage with an average of 3.11 goals against.
The year before, in his senior year at Quinnipiac University; Garteig won the ECAC Chapionship as the team earned a place in the NCAA National Championship.
The Growlers begin their inaugural season at home to the Florida EverBlades on October 12th. Garteig is the sixth player on their roster.
