This weekend again saw the Mercedes Benz Fife Flyers in Challenge Cup action, a double header with the Dundee Stars.

Saturday’s game:

Dundee pretty much controlled the game from start to finish on Saturday night and this was evident in the first few minutes as with only 1:58 on the clock Bouchard lit the lamp for the Stars. Before the end of the first period it would be two goals to zero as Drydon Dow would score – assisted by Dundee’s first goal scorer Bouchard0 so at the end of the first period it was 2-0 to the Kitmart sponsored Dundee Stars.

In to the second and it was much of the same. At 12:17 it was three goals to nil to Dundee as Brain Hart scored, that was the end of the scoring in the second so the score was 3-0 Dundee at the end of 2nd period.

In to the third and with Dundee happy to see the game out Fife did manage a goal through Chase Schaber with around seven minutes to go.

Final score: Dundee 3 Fife 1.

Most fans will tell you that was one of the poorest performances from a Fife team in a long while and I have to be fair I haven’t as yet seen the same energy or spark that we had last year.

Q. What do you, the fans, think of the flyers so far?

Sunday:

Fife came out in the 1st period on Sunday minus Basaraba and Bulmer who had been given a 2 game ban by the Department Of Player Safety.

Fife played better at the start of the first. Dundee got themselves on the power play quickly but it was Fife who took the lead through a short- handed Evan Bloodoff goal.

Dundee came back with two power play goals before the end of the first period.

End of the first: Dundee 2 Fife 1

There was only one goal in the second period and it was the first goal for Jordan Beusa in a Fife jersey. What a peach of a goal it was too! Top shelf glove side to make the score 2-2 and that was the score and the end of the second two goals apiece.

End of the second: Dundee 2 Fife 2

The third was a back and forth affair with Crowder for Fife getting a 2 + 10 near the end of the game. This will be reviewed and he could also get a ban which this early in the season will be bad for Fife.

There were no goals in the third or the overtime period so game went to penalties.

End of the third & overtime: Dundee 2 Fife 2

Penalties

Fife ✔️❌❌❌❌ – Cazzola scored

Dundee ❌❌❌❌✔️ – Corcran scored.

Dundee’s Corcran shot one past Shane Owen to take home the victory for Dundee. Fife are out of the Challenge Cup.

I though Sunday was a slightly better performance. The Flyers were taking body more and actually played with a bit more heart but again to no avail. I as a fan and I think a good few more, have real concerns about our defence this year, let’s just hope we can be better in the coming weeks. Dundee have a fast team that have plenty skill and enough fire power to score a few goals given the chance I think Pasha has the team this year to win the conference.
