Guildford Flames – Kevin Phillips Departs

Veteran defenceman, Kevin Phillips, has departed the Guildford Flames today after a little over 3 seasons at the club.

It’s come a little surprise, given his lack of ice time this season, but does leave a question mark over the roster plans moving forward for the Flames as to whether they move for a new Brit forward, keeping Lindhagen in defence, or look for a new Brit defender as a like-for-like replacement.

Kevin came to us today to explain where he is at,” said Paul Dixon.

“The fact is that he is getting very little ice time at the moment, and we completely understand where he is in his career and what he is looking for.”

“We cannot blame him one bit for wanting to get somewhere to take a more prominent role. He has been an excellent representative of this team for the past 3 seasons, and a big part of a Cup and Playoff championship when he first arrived.”

“Kevin is a high quality character and he has put together an outstanding career. We have appreciated his contribution to our success over the past 3 seasons, including his help in our move to the Elite League, and we wish him every success as he moves away from his time here.”

At 32 years old and with over 400 EIHL games to his name, the former GB junior will not be without a team for long, but it remains to be seen whether he remains in the Elite League or moves back towards the north east in order to play in the NIHL.
