Avalanche start with a bang

The NHL season has well and truly started and the Colorado Avalanche have played 2 and won 2.

Colorado Avalanche v Minnesota Wild

In their first match the Avalanche faced off against rivals the Minnesota Wild and after the Wild took the lead through Parise at 6:14, it took a further 6 mins to get the tying goal through a beautiful move by Carl Soderberg, as he placed the puck up and over the glove of the Wild netminder.

In to the second period and just after the half way mark Mikko storms down the wing as Nathan MacKinnon charges towards the middle of the goal. As soon as he taps his stick Rantanen picks him out with a perfect pass and it’s 2-1 Colorado.

In to the third and with only 1 penalty for each team it was back and forth action with both netminders making some quality saves but in the end with two empty net goals the Avalanche pulled off the 4-1 win in their home opener.

Colorado Avalanche v Philadelphia Flyers

In the Avalanches second match of the season, again at home, they came out flying against the Philadelphia Flyers as Colin Wilson scored at 1:35 mark, but the Flyers came back to tie the game at 7:30 with a goal from Couturier and then the Avalanche re-took the lead. J.T Compher scored before the end of the first, so the Avalanche were leading 2-1 at the first break.

In to the 2nd and bit of a scrappy period with 12 minutes in penalties. The Flyers would equalize through Vorobyov but yet again the Avalanche would not be behind for long as captain Gabriel Landeskog would give the Avalanche the lead again end of the 2nd and it was 3-2 Colorado.

The 3rd was a tight affair but the Avalanche managed to add another 2 goals to their tally and come away with the 5-2 victory and a perfect start to the season.
