Cardiff Devils forward Joey Haddad has picked up EIHL Player of the Week honours, following the Devils six-point weekend that saw them pick up wins against the Milton Keynes Lightning, Dundee Stars and Guildford Flames.
Haddad, who is in his fifth year with the Devils, and is on pace to set a season high 53 points, with 10 goals and 15 assists, good for 25 points through 28 games.
Over the course of week 16 in EIHL action, Haddad added to his point totals with three goals and two assists, extending his current point streak to five games where he’s picked up five goals and two assists.
One of the strongest skaters in the league, Haddad has solidified himself as the Devils go to guy in terms of puck retention, never shy of using his edge work to create time and space for himself and his teammates, consistently putting on impressive performances in the offensive zone, and now starting to be rewarded with more points.
Over the past week, Haddad has really elevated his game even more, helping the Devils to close the gap on the Belfast Giants who currently top the table.
Just a single point separates the two sides, with the Devils holding two games in hand which they’ll get back as they face the Coventry Blaze in a home-and-home series on December 26th and 27th, looking to stretch their win streak from three games to five, to take the top spot and start building some distance of their own.
With Haddad picking up Player of the Week honours, he becomes the third Devil to do so this season after Joey Martin and Gleason Fournier, and it’s the first time in his EIHL career his picked up the honours.
Cardiff have a couple of guys on point streaks right now, like Haddad as well as Fournier and Layne Ulmer, the Devils are back to playing with that confidence and ability they showed to start the current campaign, as they look to have a solid second half of the season to add to their 20-4-4 record, with a league best four goals-per-game average.
It’s a busy festive period for the Devils, with four games four game still to play between now and New Years Day.
