Another week in the books for the Kings, with an almost even week with an 0-2-1 record following one away game and two home games before the start of a three game road trip.
The Week That Was
The first game of the week took the Kings to San Jose, where they would face a 3-1 loss in a closely fought match between the two rivals of California. Anze Kopitar would score the lone goal for the Kings as Joe Thornton of San Jose would put in the empty net goal on the powerplay to seal the game for the Sharks.
Returning home to face the Senators would almost be the same affair with a 4-1 loss where despite Kyle Clifford scoring for the team, they would allow four unanswered goals from the Sens as Ryan, Tierney (2) and Wolanin would score evenly throughout the second and third periods.
Against the Penguins however, the team would face a strong opposition having come off a 6 game road winning streak and having beaten the Ducks 7-4 before going to the Staples Center the Kings would have a lot to handle.
With that said, the Kings fell behind with the first goal (Like death and taxes) but would respond five minutes later as Carter would score first for the Kings and following goals from Iafallo, Kopitar and Leipsic it would be all but decided as Kopitar would notch up an empty netter to make it 5-2 and end the Penguins streak and allow Jonathan Quick to tie Mike Richter for 4th place all time among US born goalies in wins.
The Week That Will Be
The Kings will head on a three game road trip against the Wild (Tuesday), Stars (Thursday) and the Avalanche (Saturday) before coming home the following Monday against St. Louis before the All Star break.
