On Thursday, the Belfast Giants announced another exciting signing, but little did we fans know another two were on the way. All three of these signings are exciting ones, so let’s get down to the nitty gritty and take a look at who we are welcoming with open arms…
Things have been heating up in Belfast again this week, and I’m not just talking about this heatwave! Another two brand new signings were announced on Thursday for the Giants, exciting fans even more for the upcoming season! It seems that our wonderful Coach Keefe is putting a strong team together for the 2018-19 season. Let’s take a look at the newcomers…
What a weekend it has been for Giant’s fans across the country- three signings announced across three days… and what a trio we have been given! Let’s take a look at who we will be welcoming to Belfast for the first time, and who we will be welcoming back…
As Ice Hockey fans, everyone has their favourite teams and within those teams, everyone has their favourite players. For me, my favourite Dallas Stars player is Tyler Seguin.
After the NHL Draft comes the Free Agency- a period of time in which players are out of contract with their current teams and are under consideration by others. Of course, after a whirlwind draft, the Dallas Stars have taken full advantage of the Free Agency. Here are the players who have made the cut…
The Stars have resigned Right Wing Valeri Nichushkin on a two-year contract worth a minimum of $2.95 million. Back in the 2013 Draft, Nichushkin was 10thoverall pick by the Dallas Stars, and spent parts of three seasons with them before signing with CSKA Moscow. This 23 year-old has three medals under his belt already; the Under 17s WHC Gold Medal from 2011-12, the Under 20s WJ Bronze Medal from 2012-13 and a World Championship Bronze Medal from 2016-17, alongside other recognitions.
Next up, on a one-year contract worth $1.3 million, we have Defenseman Roman Polak.
32 year-old Polak is coming to the Stars from the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending time with the San Jose Sharks and the St Louis Blues. Another player with medals under his tape, Polak won the Under 18s WJC Bronze Medal in 2003-04 and the Under 20s WJC Bronze Medal in 2004-05.
On a three-year contract worth an AAV of $2.4 million, the Stars have brought in 32 year-
old Blake Comeau, who has been brought in as a replacement for Antoine Roussel, who announced his departure from the Dallas Stars on July 1st. Comeau has one hell of a career under his belt so far, having played for Colorado Avalanche, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Calgary Flames, and the New York Islanders, not to mention the AHLs Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets and the SMHL’s Saskatoon Contacts.
Next on the roster, the Stars have added former Boston Bruins Goaltender Anton
Khudobin. 32 year-old Khudobin is on a two-year contract worth $2.5 million and will be serving as backup for the Stars this coming season. Driven by a potential chance at the Stanley Cup rather than money, Khudobin has never played more than 36 games in a season but has a .913 save percentage, which is great for a backup at 32.
Last, but certainly not least, the Dallas Stars have offered a one-year extension worth $735,000 to the 23 year-old Left Wing Remi Elie, who has already played 72 games with the Stars this past season. He played 18 games with them in the 2016-17 season as well and spent the rest of that season with the Texas Stars. While Elie’s production is low in comparison to other forwards, he had 101 hits last year in his minimal ice time and is showing potential for the future.
There we have it, the Free Agency lineup so far! With a new team coming together, could next season be ‘the one’ for the Dallas Stars?
