Slovakian Tvrdon jets in to Panthers

Panthers confirm signing of 2011 Detroit Red Wings draft pick forward.

Nottingham Panthers have confirmed another signing, in the form of winger Marek Tvrdon from Klagenfurther AC 2 of Austrian league AlpsHL.

Tvrdon was a round 4 #115 pick for Detroit back in 2011. He’s no stranger to the EIHL having spent time here last season with the Edinburgh Capitals where he played 15 times scoring 15 points.

Tvrdon also has experience playing in the AHL with Grand Rapids Griffin and has spent the majority of his hockey career, main at junior level, playing for Justin Kovacs former team, HK Nitra, in his home town. He has played for his nation at international level with both the U18 and U20 sides. He has also played a couple of seasons in the ECHL with Toledo Walleye, 4 games in the KHL with HC Slovan Bratislava and 1 season in the VHL.

His most productive season in professional hockey came in 2011/12 with Vancouver Giants in the Canadian Western Hockey League (WHL) where he played 60 games, scoring 31 goals and 43 assists, an impressive grand points total of 74.

Panthers fans may be concerned that he has already played with two different teams already this season, however if he hits the ground running and puts the effort in he will be revered by the gold and black faithful.

Rich Chernomaz has stated that Tvrdon has been brought in to assist on the power plays and that he has a position in mind for him.

It’s not been confirmed whether he has been brought in to replace one of the roster or whether his inclusion is due to current injuries to Kevin Henderson and Jon Rheault. Fans have been concerned with the lack of consistency shown recently and some have called for a change.

Is Tvrdon the answer? It remains to be seen only time will tell as they say.
