Well we have an interesting few days in Steelerland, that is for sure. Life is never a dull one here, there’s always something happening to keep one entertained. I’ll now look back at the weekend just gone in my own unique style, all self-opinionated as always. Enjoy the read..
Nottingham Panthers have confirmed that 26 year old, British trained Canadian forward Tyler VanKleef has signed with them on a short term try-out.
In a late in the day move the Coventry Blaze have announced the signing of Tim Crowder from Chamonix.
The Newfoundland Growlers have signed British Colombia native Michael Garteig to a one-year ECHL contract. With that, Garteig becomes the first goaltender on the Growlers roster.
The Belfast Giants have completed their roster for the 18/19 season following the announcement that 30-year-old left winger Hunter Bishop has signed up for the upcoming season. The announcement was made at the Giants open training session on Thursday night.
Bishop played three years of college hockey in the NCAA with stints at both the University of North Dakota and Ohio State University. After his second year at Ohio he made the step up to the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs where he spent the next couple of seasons.
He then spent a year with several loan spells. But it was his last that saw him end up at the Manchester Monarchs where he ended up staying for a full year.
In the 14-15 season Bishop decided to make the move to Europe to the EBEL with Olimpija Ljubljana where he spent a year and posted 36 points in 48 games. He has spent the last three seasons with HC Innsbruck where he put up 116 points in 141 games.
The announcement come just before the Giants begin their preseason campaign with the return of the Manitoba Bisons to the SSE Arena. The USports team split a two-game series last season with the Giants with the university side taking the first 6-4 but the Giants answering back with a 7-6 overtime victory the following night.
The Bisons have already been in action against EIHL teams in the lead up to the game. First up they visited the Manchester Storm and came up short in a 4-3 win for the home side. They followed this up by a trip to Kirkcaldy to face the Fife Flyers and skated away with a 2-1 win.
This will be the only preseason action the Giants take part in as they start their season on September 8th with a road trip to Dundee to start the defence of the Challenge Cup.
